Kevin P. Inscoe's Radio Monitor Page

Public Safety and Utility monitoring also known as "scanning" (from years ago when monitors would scan a series of LED lights as each channel was selected) is an enjoyable past time for me. I usually listen as I am drivingsome where or some times as I am going to sleep. Right now I monitor mostlyusing a Uniden Bearcat BC-245XLT TrunkTracker II that I take with me everywhere.

I occasionally use and collect several Bearcat 250 VHF/UHF scanning monitors.

Laws Concerning Scanning:

1998 Florida Statutes - CHAPTER 843 - OBSTRUCTING JUSTICE
Particularly note sections 843.16 and 843.165.
Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 (EPCA) - Title 18, US Code - Chapter 119
Communications Act of 1934 (which created the FCC) - Title 47, US Code - Chapter 5
Title 47, US Code - Chapter 19 - INTERCEPTION OF DIGITAL AND OTHER COMMUNICATIONS
1998 Code of Federal Regulations, Chapter 47 (The FCC Rule Book)
Criminal Code of Canada - Section 184.5, INTERCEPTION OF RADIO-BASED TELEPHONE COMMUNICATIONS

Telecommunications Act of 1996
There are more or less broad changes that effect radio spectrum users as a wholeand not just monitoring stations. However there are portions of the law thatdeal with satellite dishes and antennas.
