This mod opens up the transmit capability (137-174 MHz). It's very simple to accomplish. Please heed the usual warnings and disclaimers about transmitting outside the HAM bands and possible damage to your rig performing the mod incorrectly.

Remove all power from the radio before performing the mod.

1. Remove control head from front of the rig.
   
   
2. Disconnect the cable that connects to the back of the control head.
   
   
3. Two screws hold on the back cover of the control head. Remove them and the back cover.
   
   
4. Clip the red and blue wires inside the control head.
   
   
5. Reassemble the radio in the reverse order.
   
   
6. Hold the Function key down on power-up to reset the CPU.
   
   You will loose the contents of the unit's memories when you perform the reset, so be prepared to reprogram them.
